Everything is out to get you in Obstacle Alley
There are a lot of obstacles on the road to success.
You’ll probably need the blackmail strategy to get you past some of them.
You’ll face internal stops. You need more somethings and it has to wait til payday. You’re taking longer than you thought to figure out a process. Usually, your creative mind will find ways through – if you want your goals enough.
Then there are behaviours you know are hurting your chances. One of my favourites was an addiction to procrastination. These behaviours will stop you unless you decide to change – and will give you plenty of excuses to quit your path , if you’re willing to break promises to yourself.
Finally, there’s stuff you can’t control, like weather and revolution. Often cited as the reason goals don’t done, the truth of it is that external factors rarely affect progress – unless you want to use them as an excuse.
Defiance begins with self-awareness
You do set your own priorities. If the goal isn’t exciting you to change the habits you need to, examine your reasons for chasing the damn goal in the first place.
Keep records of your progress, however small. When the hard days happen, look back at your achievements. Do you really want to throw away those results? You’ll probably have to start again from the beginning if you quit now.
Small incremental gains should help you to keep taking more steps. Focus on the now and on the important – there will always be distractions.
“If you can see yourself doing something, you can do it. If you can’t see yourself doing it, usually you can’t achieve it.” – David Goggins
Will you stop when your hosting renewal comes up, because you ‘haven’t made much yet’? Or will you quit writing posts because you don’t get comments? Maybe what you’re writing about is not relevant, and you simply need a change of course. Don’t quit when the river rises; wade.
Occasionally, conditions like weather, injury, or outside happenings will bring an unexpected pause in your journey. But all too often, people quit quests because they give up; do you?
Crossing the Belief Pass
“You need to believe in things that aren’t true. How else can they become?”
― Terry Pratchett, Hogfather
Too many obstacles or too little will?
How would you complete this sentence? “When the going gets tough . . .” If you determine, before you begin, to carry the thing through, will you keep your own word?
It’s when the going gets tough, that you question your own belief. Only with certainty about your ability to carry through everything you’ve planned, will you believe you can overcome all the obstacles to do it. And belief is not self-confidence.
Self-confidence is knowing you have, or can find, the ways or techniques you need to get whatever you want. Belief, as it relates to goal achievement, is knowing you WILL achieve, regardless of what you know or do not.
Do you believe you can?
If you can see yourself doing something, you can do it. If you can’t see yourself doing it, usually you can’t achieve it. – David Goggins
“Nothing in the world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent. The slogan Press On! has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race.” ― Calvin Coolidge
Be confident, act in congruence with your values, and believe your goals are worth it.
They are – so never quit!
That’s the end of this intro series about making money online in your own internet business. It’s a wonderful journey. I look forward to writing more as I learn it.
