About Antics

I’m Anthony.
I’ve worn many labels; held many posts and done some interesting things along this road of life. I once designed a lodge that its owners have landscaped and loved and turned into a particularly beautiful haven; its walls are made from straw. I’ve also designed buildings to be built with earth bricks.
Antics of course is a play on my name; it’s also a word that bubbles over with fun. Life’s too short to be serious all the time.

In no particular order of significance: I’m a New Zealander; a parent; an architect; a writer; a puzzle designer; a teacher; a student. I’ve lived alone; in a partnership; and in an intentional community of dozens. I’ve travelled internationally.

It’s a reasonable list of adventures. Longer still is the list of things I’ve not yet done, and will. I’ve certainly not reached the altitude I intend to, either personally or professionally.

One of my areas of interest is writing. Words are my playthings; I love tinkering with cadence – that’s a very more obscure pastime! But communication makes things happen. And there’s right and wrong ways to do it.

Altitude… It’s the height of accomplishment, literally or figuratively. It’s the sense of something beyond where we are now; it’s whatever place we aspire to reach when we achieve our goals.
Achievement in the eyes of the world has many meanings and takes many forms. Only you can say what that is for you. And through achievement comes inner satisfaction. I believe most people gain the greatest satisfaction by achieving their goals through making a difference for others.
Of course, achievements only come after commitment and focus.

I like to read the inspirational words of others. Sometime ago I came across this:

“The quality of a person’s life is in direct proportion to their commitment to excellence, regardless of their chosen field of endeavor.” ~ Vincent Lombardi

I hope in this place you’ll find some inspiration to commit to achieve more than you have already, in whatever field you desire. Perhaps it will be through what I share; perhaps it will be through the words and stories of others. For it’s through the making – and keeping – of commitments to ourselves that we achieve.

An old Russian Proverb reminds us to chase only one rabbit; it’s a good image to reflect on! May your life include many antics, and achieve much altitude…
